Description The HOD – Supply Chain Services provides strategic leadership, ensuring uninterrupted mining operations through efficient, cost effective and compliant supply chain processes, while fostering stakeholder trust, strong governance and continuous improvement.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and implement end-to-end supply chain strategies aligned with MRM’s business objectives.
- Provide commercial expertise and advisory support to Gemfields projects within Mozambique.
- Drive governance, transparency and compliance across all supply chain functions.
- Champion digitalisation and process improvements, including ERP systems, automation and reporting dashboards.
- Lead procurement planning, vendor selection and negotiations to achieve cost savings and mitigate risks.
- Establish long-term supplier partnerships to secure continuity of supply and competitive advantage.
- Oversee inventory management systems, stock audits and reconciliation.
- Maintain optimal stock levels to minimise stockouts and overstock.
- Ensure safe storage, security and accurate reporting of stock and diesel.
- Manage logistics networks to ensure the timely delivery of goods.
- Implement controls for diesel usage, accountability and reporting.
- Drive efficiency in transport and handling costs.
- Deliver budgetary targets through effective procurement and inventory cost management.
- Track KPIs such as savings achieved, stock turnover and budget variance.
- Report to the General Manager and Finance Director on the financial performance of supply chain functions.
- Lead, mentor and develop teams across procurement, warehouse and logistics.
- Build a culture of accountability, teamwork and continuous learning.
- Drive local talent development and succession planning.
- Ensure that personal and Group HSE KPIs are established and achieved by all team members.
- Ensure the correct operation and control of relevant MRM HSE Standards within the department.
- Ensure clarity regarding HSEQ accountabilities and tasks for team members.
- Monitor the effectiveness of HSE Standards within the relevant sections and take corrective action where deficiencies are identified.
- Authorise section-specific plans and/or operating procedures within the limits of the approved MRM HSE Standards.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration or a related field.
- Between 12 and 15 years of experience in supply chain, procurement or logistics within the mining or heavy-industry sectors.
- Strong leadership, stakeholder management and team-building capabilities.
- Proven negotiation and vendor management skills.
- Expertise in ERP and inventory management systems.
- High level of financial acumen, risk management and governance orientation.
- Strong communication and cross-cultural collaboration skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Proven ability to implement process-improvement initiatives.
- Proficiency in inventory management software and ERP systems.
- Hands-on experience with procurement management software and databases.
- Availability to work after hours and on days off when required.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- The successful candidate will work at the MRM Camp in Namanhumbir, Montepuez District, Cabo Delgado, Mozambique.
- The position follows a rotational schedule of 56 days on and 21 days off.
- One travel day to the site and one travel day from the site are not included in the rotation period.
- Plane tickets will be purchased by the company.
- Single-room accommodation at the camp will be provided by the company.
- Electricity, water and meals will also be provided.
