Water4Life Mozambique is a nonprofit organization committed to providing clean, safe drinking water to rural communities in Mozambique by drilling wells in underserved villages. Each well serves approximately 1,200 people and is funded entirely by donations, with 100% of contributions going directly to well construction. The organization’s work improves health, empowers communities, and enables children, especially girls, to attend school by eliminating the need for long walks to collect water.
This full-time contract position is located at the Mozambique Headquarters in Xai-Xai.
Start date would be February 17, 2026.
Job Overview: We are hiring an Operations Overseer fluent in English and local languages (e.g., Changana, Portuguese) to manage all in-office operations at our Mozambique Headquarters in Xai-Xai. Reporting to the CEO and our Mozambique Country Director, Latim, you will oversee administrative and field coordination tasks, collaborating with the Director of Drilling on scheduling and in-office matters.
This role requires strong accounting, organizational, computer, leadership, and communication skills to ensure efficient operations and mission success. In this job, you should expect to collaborate with various team members who are based in Mozambique and the United States.
RESPONSIBILITIES
We are a mission-driven organization dedicated to providing clean water through water well drilling in Mozambique. Our goal is to transform communities by ensuring access to safe water, and we are seeking a skilled Operations Overseer to manage our headquarters operations in Xai-Xai.
Key Responsibilities:
- Office Management: Oversee all in-office operations, including administrative tasks, record-keeping, and coordination of field activities.
- Field Oversight: Monitor and coordinate all field activities (e.g., well drilling, cement sanitation apron construction, pump installations), ensuring alignment with organizational goals, while the Director of Drilling manages on-site drilling operations.
- Scheduling Collaboration: Work closely with the Director of Drilling to plan and organize drilling schedules, ensuring timely and efficient operations.
- Application Review: Review and approve village applications for new wells, ensuring proper documentation and community engagement.
- Inventory Control: Manage inventory for supplies (e.g., pipes, pumps), ensuring availability for field operations.
- Financial Management: Maintain accurate accounting records, track incoming funds and expenditures, and produce job cost reports (e.g., fuel, mileage, salaries, day labor payments). Prepare and submit regular Funds Requests.
- Reporting & Communication: Provide regular updates and reports to the CEO and Country Director, communicating effectively with team members, local communities, and stakeholders in English and local languages.
- Compliance & Documentation: Ensure all operations comply with local regulations and organizational policies, maintaining accurate records for audits and reporting.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Fluency in English and local languages (e.g., Changana, Portuguese) for effective communication with communities and stakeholders.
- Proven experience in operations management, administrative coordination, or a related field, preferably in a development or nonprofit context.
- Strong accounting skills with experience in budgeting, expense tracking, and financial reporting.
- Proficiency in computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office, Google Suite, or accounting software).
- Exceptional organizational and leadership skills, with the ability to manage office tasks and oversee field coordination.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders, including rural communities and senior leadership.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with the Director of Drilling and other team members.
- Commitment to our mission of providing clean water and improving community well-being.
- Knowledge of water well drilling processes is a plus but not required.
