Peace Parks Foundation and the European Union (EU) Delegation in Zimbabwe-NaturAfrica signed an agreement for the implementation of the action: Linking People and Landscape at Great Limpopo Transfrontier Conservation Area (GLTFCA). The agreement was signed for three years (2025-2028). The overall objective of the project is to strengthen the resilience of communities and ecosystems. The specific objectives of the project are:
- Further the establish and manage the Banhine-Limpopo Ecological Connected Area (ECA) to ensure long-term ecological integrity
- Enhance governance, conservation practices, and livelihoods within Sengué-Tchipise Ecological Corridor Area
- Strengthening transboundary governance and collaboration within the GLTFCA for effective management and shared conservation outcomes
The project will benefit 5,823 people in 9 communities between Mapai and Mabalane District. In order to assist the mentioned communities in the implementation of this project, Peace Parks Foundation is looking for a Community Development Coordinator, based in Mapai District, to work in collaboration with Limpopo National Park (LNP) and Banhine National Park (BNP) staff for the implementation of the project.

Job Purpose The Community Development Coordinator for the EU Project will be the focal person for interaction/engagement with communities living in the Limpopo National Park and Banhine National Park Ecological Linkage Area.
The position will be responsible for the engagement of these communities in the project implementation and for strengthening their resilience and ecosystems.
The Project will work closely with the Parks Authorities (Banhine National Park and Limpopo National Park), District Authorities (Mapai and Mabalane), and all stakeholders who engage with the communities in terms of community governance, livelihood strategies, human wildlife conflict mitigation, and water supplies.
The role will also focus on ensuring the appropriate engagement of the community and the community governance structures in the project’s Free Particpatory and Informed Consent (FPIC) process. The Coordinator will lead on capacity building, planning and monitoring, integrating community livelihoods with conservation efforts, ensuring that the shared benefits are appropriately and fairly distributed and that it is done in a participatory manner, and ensuring sustainable community development is aligned with the Peace Parks Foundation’s objectives.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Ensure effective coordination, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting of the European Union Project with regard to the community engagement activities.
- Ensure effective communication between Peace Parks Foundation, through the European Union Project Manager, the Limpopo National Park management team, the Banhine National Park management team, and the relevant communities.
- Support communities to strengthen responsible community governance structures and build capacity for sustainable livelihoods, conservation agriculture, and wildlife economy.
- Establish and maintain functional Natural Resource Management Committees as identified.
- Support community leaders to develop and implement community action plans that support conservation objectives and improve socio-economic outcomes.
- Ensuring that all selected communities living in the Ecological Linkage are included in the Free Participatory and Informed Consent process, activity design and implementation.
- Support the identification of the first six communities to benefit in terms of sustainable agriculture support and human wildlife conflict migitation efforts.
- Support the identification of the beneficiaries from the water scheme.
- Coordination with the District Authorities and other relevant stakeholders.
- Ensuring that the project activities assigned are delivered in accordance with the project timelines.
- Be responsible for providing a monthly report to the Project Manager for the European Union Project regarding the implementation of the project, risks and concerns, lesson learnt, and areas for improvements
- Bachelor’s Degree in agriculture, natural resource management, rural development, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in community-based natural resource management, conservation, or rural development.
- Proven experience of working with NGOs (local or International).
- Proven experience in community governance, capacity building, and socio-economic development in rural areas.
- Experience in working in a conservation environment and with EU projects is preferred.
- Fluent in Portuguese and Changana, with English language skills as an advantage.
- Technologically astute, with experience in computer software use, data collection and analysis, and report writing
