UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, is recruiting an Associate Protection Cluster Coordination Officer to strengthen protection coordination, information management, advocacy and capacity-building within the Protection Cluster in Pemba and Northern Mozambique. The role ensures that the safety, rights and dignity of forcibly displaced and conflict-affected populations remain central to the humanitarian response.
Key Responsibilities
Protection Coordination & Information Management
- Support the Protection Cluster Coordinator in information management, communication and reporting among Cluster members and partners
- Coordinate with OCHA on timely collection and transmission of protection reports and updates
- Compile and analyse protection data, including thematic reports, maps and advocacy materials
Protection Analysis, Advocacy & Strategy
- Contribute to protection analysis, prioritisation and joint advocacy initiatives
- Support development and implementation of Protection strategies, including within pooled funding processes
- Promote international refugee law, IDP legislation and protection mainstreaming across sectors
Coordination with Thematic Areas of Responsibility (AoRs)
- Ensure effective liaison with AoRs including SGBV, Child Protection and Housing, Land & Property
- Support follow-up of recommendations and alerts at all levels
Capacity Building & Training
- Design, organise and deliver training on protection mainstreaming, AGD, monitoring and advocacy
- Evaluate training impact and strengthen partner operational capacity
Field Presence & Community Engagement
- Maintain protection presence through regular field missions and engagement with affected populations, authorities and partners
- Ensure responses reflect the specific needs of females, children, older persons, persons with disabilities and minority groups
Profile Required
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Law, International Law, Political Science or a related field
Experience
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in protection or humanitarian coordination
- Experience working with refugees, IDPs or other persons of concern
- Experience in information management and humanitarian communication desirable
Skills
- Strong analytical, coordination and communication skills
- Ability to design and deliver training and capacity-building activities
- Ability to operate effectively in complex and challenging humanitarian environments
Desirable Qualifications and Skills:
- Knowledge of UN policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of the UN Guiding Principles on Internal Displacement, as well as of relevant UNHCR and Inter-agency policies and guidelines on Protection.
- Computer skills: Office Package (excellent knowledge of Word, good knowledge of Excel and Power Point) and Internet browsing.
