POSITION: Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) Specialist

About the Role

Kenmare is seeking a Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) Specialist to operate and develop its mineralogy laboratory. The specialist will also provide training to the team, ensuring high standards in mineral analysis and geometallurgy.

Main Responsibilities

The SEM Specialist will be responsible for:

  • Ensuring compliance with Environmental, Health, and Safety policies and relevant legislation.
  • Managing sample analysis and laboratory maintenance operations.
  • Developing daily, weekly, and monthly reports on analysis results.
  • Assisting in the creation of a geometallurgical model to optimize production strategies.
  • Identifying risks associated with mining plans and metallurgical circuit design and proposing corrective actions.
  • Training the team in SEM operation, maintenance, and sample preparation to international standards.
  • Supporting the superintendent in leading and mentoring the team to ensure high performance.
  • Identifying continuous improvement opportunities in laboratory operations and implementing cost-effective solutions.

Requirements and Skills

  • Master’s degree in Mineralogy or a related field (PhD preferred).
  • At least 5 years of experience operating an SEM.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in geometallurgy within the mining industry.
  • Proven experience in automated mineralogy (experience with Maps Mineralogy software is an advantage).
  • Strong background in coaching and knowledge transfer.
  • Fluency in English (Portuguese knowledge is an advantage).
