Job Summary:
As a Carbon Technical Specialist for Sustainable Technologies (ST) project development, you will oversee the timely and effective generation and delivery of emission reductions, managing multiple full project cycles globally. Reporting directly to the Technical Head for Africa, you will support other project offices with global project development and ST-related sourcing and development topics.
Main Tasks & Responsibilities:
- Conduct the full technical development of viable carbon finance projects, including:
- Developing carbon emissions baseline and project scenarios;
- Contributing to the identification and design of field implementation activities;
- Writing project certification documents (e.g., PDDs, MRs);
- Designing and managing work plans and budgets for technical activities;
- Leading projects through audit and validation/verification processes under standards like VERRA and The Gold Standard.
- Conduct site visits and carbon due diligence, if required.
- Oversee all technical aspects of carbon offset projects, registries, and issuance processes.
- Manage technical sections of carbon project feasibility studies, Project Documents, and Monitoring Reports.
- Act as a key point of contact and maintain relationships with team members, project owners, clients, validation/verification bodies, and other stakeholders.
- Provide technical and business development support for project sourcing.
- Follow internal procedures in the project management tool for all signed ERPAs.
- Support onboarding of new colleagues.
- Prepare proposals and deliverables to the quality required by South Pole and third parties.
- Define and plan content and structure to support project certification (work plans, schedules, budgets, deliverables).
- Schedule Technical Reviews and Quality Checks on time.
- Draft invoices for approval and submission to clients.
- Participate in ongoing training and technical discussions for knowledge sharing.
- Enter accurate data and required information in project management software and tools.
- Manage project owners’ accounts in the internal project management tool.
- Update proposal/project information and ensure all relevant documents are accessible.
- Keep general information, milestones, and cash flow up to date in the project management software.
Requirements:
Essential:
- 3+ years of experience in developing ST Carbon projects through the full VCS and Gold Standard validation and verification process, including:
- Developing Project Description Documents (PDDs);
- Monitoring & Implementation Reports (MIRs);
- Managing Validation and Verification Body (VVB) audits (e.g., water, cookstove, renewable energy, waste-to-energy projects).
- 3+ years of experience in recruiting, training, and managing Enumerators/Research consulting partners for data collection.
- 3+ years of experience in managing data collection projects for research studies, delivering quality results on time and within budget.
- 3+ years of experience in organizing, coordinating, and leading stakeholder consultation engagements.
- Minimum 2 years of management experience.
- Proven team player with the ability to work effectively across cultures and organizations.
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail.
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills and ability to build on existing knowledge to develop new approaches.
- Undergraduate/Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in fields such as Carbon Methodology, Market Research, Monitoring and Evaluation, Project Management, or Data and Analytics.
- Ability to work on diverse assignments, applying company policies and procedures to resolve issues.
- Capacity to solve complex project-related problems independently, with general direction on new assignments.
- Excellent communication skills, especially verbal and written English.
- Ability to create high-quality written documents (proposals and deliverables) in English.
- Team management experience.
- Ability to manage targets, priorities, and develop own goals.
- National or holder of a valid work visa for Mozambique or Kenya.
Desired Skills and Experience:
- Proficiency in a second language (e.g., French) is a plus.
- Strong technical skills.
- Experience working with diverse stakeholders.
