Vacancy: Senior National Project Agronomist

Organizational Context
The crisis in northern Mozambique, particularly in Cabo Delgado, has worsened due to conflict, insecurity, and extreme climate events. In response, FAO is implementing the Agricultural Livelihoods Response Plan to support internally displaced persons (IDPs), host communities, returnees, and cyclone-affected populations. The goal is to restore crop production, livestock, and fishing activities while promoting sustainable natural resource management.
Key Responsibilities
Under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative in Mozambique and direct supervision of the Head of Sub-Office, the Senior Project Agronomist will be responsible for the implementation of crop production and productivity components within the project.
Main duties include:
- Coordinate day-to-day project implementation in line with approved work plans.
- Prepare annual/quarterly work plans, procurement plans, ToRs, and training plans.
- Liaise with technical advisers at regional and HQ levels for clearance and support.
- Oversee delivery of technical outputs including consultations, data collection, and partner coordination.
- Support the identification and selection of implementing partners (NGOs, universities, research institutions).
- Ensure timely and quality delivery of field activities (e.g., training, demo plots, input distribution).
- Monitor and evaluate project activities and promote sustainability.
- Ensure gender, social inclusion, and protection measures are integrated.
- Organize coordination meetings and ensure proper documentation and follow-up.
- Support knowledge sharing, reporting, and development of future project proposals.
- Promote project outcomes and visibility at the provincial and national levels.
Minimum Requirements
- University degree in Agronomy, Crop Production, Sustainable Agriculture, or a related field.
- At least 5 years of experience in technical cooperation, policy analysis, or agricultural development.
- Working knowledge of English and Portuguese.
- Must be a Mozambican national.
