About The Hiring Department
ELIM is looking to welcome an Intern: Business Development to join our Business Development Unit. The Business Development Unit supports the Research & Evaluation Unit by taking the lead on all external engagements, from finding and bidding on new project opportunities to managing the ELIM Serviços brand. Our Business Development Unit is responsible for building our project pipeline, identifying, resourcing and submitting competitive proposals in our areas of activity. It is also the central point of contact for any partnership discussions, and it oversees the firm’s corporate brand, managing our image, presence and positioning in the market.
About the Internship
Successful candidates are afforded the opportunity to be embedded with the organisation’s operational areas for a period of up to 8 months based on the demonstrated skills and specialisation of interest. During this time, candidates will be able to apply the theoretical knowledge earned through academic work to the practical environment a diverse international development firm. At the end of the internship term, the candidate will be evaluated for an opportunity to be considered for any existing and suitable permanent positions.
S/He should possess keen research and report-writing skills, excellent communication, high concentration levels, good task management, and superior problem solving and critical thinking skills. S/He will work on a variety of areas, including brand management and marketing, social media engagement, event coordination and planning, technical research, and market content development. The Intern: Business Development must demonstrate a strong ability to work in a diverse team and engage external stakeholders, both local and international, in accordance with corporate expectations.
Specific Responsibilities
The Intern: Business Development will work closely with the Business Development Officer supporting the following functions:
Research and knowledge Management (20%)
- Engagement with ELIM Group firms to capture lessons from ongoing activities as part of the institutional knowledge management.
- Provide selected writing inputs for general sections of technical documents (e.g., background, contextual analyses and capability statements) based on research made on the subject matter and in response to any existing terms of reference.
- Support the improvement of the firm’s systems through contributions to tools and templates to facilitate business development processes as necessary.
Proposal Coordination (50%)
- Provide day-to-day support on the identification and coordination of tender bids, working with technical and operational staff throughout the proposal process, tracking and organizing documentation, synthesizing technical inputs, and consolidating documents for final edit and review.
- Provide selected writing inputs for general proposal sections e.g., background, cross cutting areas and capability statements.
- Assist in the assembly of document components and annexes during the proposal development process.
- Contribute to efforts to ensure compliance with donor’s submission requirements.
- Support the production, packaging and submission of proposals per client terms of reference.
New Business Administration (30%)
- Monitor and share new funding opportunities from multilateral and bilateral sources including donor/partner data bases/websites.
- Assist in maintaining the new business development pipeline
- Provide administrative support for new business including improving tools, processes and managing business development folders.
- Schedule and coordinate meetings and conference calls; prepare and distribute agenda, take minutes and finalise for distribution.
- Research and prepare relevant materials for internal and external meetings with staff, donors, potential funders, and other key groups or individuals.
- Update past project and corporate capability references as required
- Provide administrative support to the BD Director as necessary.
Necessary Qualifications
Applying candidates should have the following minimum qualifications and/or experience:
- Degree in Development Studies, Marketing or similar.
- Working knowledge of both English and Portuguese a non-negotiable requirement
- Possession of creative flair and versatility
- Excellent written skills with strong ability for self-editing and create visual presentations,
- Highly developed interpersonal and presentation skills
- Understanding of the latest trends in digital marketing and their role within a commercial environment
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Aptitude for learning in different technical areas and experiment with the use of different technologies
- Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks regarding time, costs and deadlines
- Experience with copyediting and formatting documents required.
- Demonstrable proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
