VAGA – JUNIOR SAFETY OFFICER

The main purpose of the Safety Officer is toensure safe work procedures and the safety of workers while they are on duty.

Inspect: a) Hygiene facilities, b) Vehicles, c) PPE, d) First-aid equipment, e) Hazardous chemicals, f) Submit report to management, g) HSE meetings, h) Toolbox Talks, i) Investigations; Safety Management System;
Do monthly, 3-monthly, 6-monthly, annual and bi-annual inspections;
Submit file in system and report to management;
Submit monthly report on safety inspection to Branch Manager and Director/s;
Maintain and review system continuously;
Submit prescribed forms;
Get notification of accident and take person to doctor if necessary;
Investigate the incident and report to management. Incidents and Accidents Investigated;
Get notification of accident and take person to doctor if necessary;
Investigate the incident and report to management;
Keep statistics for safety system;
Display statistics on notice board and keep board up to date;
Discuss incident/accident with all staff members – do toolbox talks and accident recalls;
Do follow-up on cause of accident and develop preventative action.
Scheduling of Safety Training;
Arrange logistics to get staff to training and control exercise;
File information on safety management system and keep updated;
Ensure correct dispersion of trained staff in workforce. Health and Safety Meetings;

a) Health and safety information;

b) Reports from safety representatives;

c) Incidents/accidents;

Follow up on all decisions made at these meetings;
Follow up on all instructions, incidents and discussions during meetings;
Inform management if instructions are not being carried out;
Submit suggestions regarding safety to management and workers;
Discuss and do follow-up on submitted suggestions.
Safety Walk-abouts;
Perform visual safety check in all sections and submit report to management;
Have short safety talks with employees while on the walk-about;
Perform loss control;
Do follow-up on instructions given while on the walk-about and file in SAFETY system; Computer Programme Maintained;
Submit reports on system;
Modify forms for usage in working area;
Implement new forms in company;
Inform staff of new safety developments on the SAFETY notice board;
Maintain and control system for management.
Security Reports Monitored;
Receive reports and file in system;
Report any hazards/problems to management. PPE;
Ensure that all workers on site wear the correct PPE;
Monitor quality on PPE and recommend changes where necessary;
Perform weekly stock-taking and instruct the issuing of PPE;
Submit cost analysis and statistics on usage of PPE to management;
Design PPE for different sections;
Request PPE needed on a monthly basis from Buyer.
