Job Summary

The International Payments Supervisor ensures efficient processing and monitoring of cross-border payments for Retail and Corporate clients, adhering to Service Level Agreements (SLAs), regulatory requirements, and Absa Group standards. This role combines operational oversightrisk management, and stakeholder collaboration to deliver seamless payment experiences.

Key Responsibilities

1. Payment Processing & Compliance

  • Process, verify, and authorize international payments in banking systems.
  • Review supporting documents for compliance with exchange controls, AML policies, and sanctions.
  • Settle correspondent bank charges and resolve queries.

2. Stakeholder Support

  • Assist front-office teams (Coverage) with technical payment queries.
  • Ensure SLA adherence for in-country and cross-border transactions.
  • Escalate system issues to IT/Group teams when needed.

3. Risk & Control

  • Log and escalate risk/loss events (fraud, errors) to Operational Risk Management (ORM).
  • Mitigate risks identified by Audit, Assurance, or Conformance reviews.
  • Uphold 100% compliance with AML, sanctions, and business continuity policies.

4. Reporting & Process Improvement

  • Prepare Management Information (MI) and Central Bank regulatory reports.
  • Propose process optimizations to enhance payment efficiency.
  • Participate in system testing for new projects/changes.

5. Team Collaboration

  • Share technical knowledge with colleagues.
  • Build relationships with stakeholders across regions.

Qualifications & Experience

Education

  • FETC (Further Education and Training Certificate) in Business, Commerce, or Management Studies (Required).
  • Additional certifications in Payments, Compliance, or Risk Management (Preferred).

Experience

  • 3+ years in international payments, trade finance, or banking operations.
  • Familiarity with:
    • SWIFT, correspondent banking, and payment systems.
    • Mozambique’s exchange control regulations.
    • AML/CFT frameworks.

Skills

  • Attention to detail for document verification.
  • Problem-solving for payment discrepancies.
  • Fluency in English and Portuguese (written/spoken).
  • Basic accounting knowledge for reconciliation.
