Vaga: Helicopter Pilot

BACKGROUND

Peace Parks is a non-profit conservation organisation that specialises in the development of Transfrontier Conservation Areas (TFCAs) and the long-term management of key protected areas within these landscapes. We currently focus on the development of four priority TFCAs throughout southern Africa and the co-management of nine national parks and protected areas covering over 3.5 million hectares within a larger TFCA landscape of over 650,000km2. In addition to protected area management, Peace Parks also focuses on landscape and natural resource-based community development initiatives. The Foundation obtains funding from various donors to fund projects in the different TFCAs. Spending of such funds must follow donor procurement rules which are specific to each donor and project.

JOB PURPOSE

We are looking for a pilot with rotary wing capabilities to fly Peace Parks helicopters, supporting operations and logistics within the project areas. Pilot responsibilities include conducting VFR flights in various operational modes – counter poaching, game capture, surveys, reconnaissance, extended patrols, high risk law enforcement and security related operations, and demanding seasonal weather scenarios. Logistical flights include moving Peace Parks personnel, donors, institutional representatives and equipment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Safe operation of flight missions – tasking, planning and executing.
  • Liaising with the Manager: Aviation Services, Park Project Managers and Counter Poaching / Law Enforcement Co-ordinators regarding Peace Parks requirements.
  • Advising PRFA regarding service times.
  • Operate the aircraft and flight missions in compliance with Civil Aviation Authorities and PPF SOPs.
  • Manage hangar and fuel requirements.
  • Daily and monthly reporting.
  • All other reasonable duties required by management.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • 3+ years in the conservation management flying sector
  • Valid commercial pilot’s license, game rating, class 1 medical, CRM, DG and SETP
  • 500 hours total time
  • 250 hours PIC on R44
  • 250 hours game capture experience
  • Mozambique CPL validation or license (advantageous)
