Vaga – Country Manager

Hiveonline is a rapidly growing fintech company empowering smallholder farmers in Africa to access financial services and expand their markets. We are seeking a dynamic and results-oriented Mozambique Country Manager to lead our operations and drive growth in the country. The ideal candidate will be a seasoned leader with a deep understanding of the Mozambican agricultural finance market and a passion for creating positive social impact.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong cultural intelligence, demonstrating the ability to understand and adapt to different cultural contexts across public and private sectors in developed and developing economies. They will be comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and able to build relationships with diverse stakeholders. Role Responsibilities

Business Development (30%)

  • Maintain in-depth market knowledge to identify new market segments and develop targeted go-to-market strategies.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders in the agricultural, governmental, NGO, and financial sectors.
  • Develop compelling value propositions and deliver persuasive sales presentations to close deals and exceed revenue targets.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to create and execute integrated marketing and sales campaigns.

Sales and Relationship Management (30%)

  • Build and manage a robust sales pipeline through effective prospecting and lead generation activities.
  • Identify potential business opportunities and convert them into profitable partnerships.
  • Oversee the sales process from lead generation to contract signing, ensuring timely and accurate deal closure.

Country Strategy (10%)

  • Align hiveonline’s overall strategic vision with local market realities to develop a comprehensive country strategy.
  • Monitor local market trends and identify new business opportunities to drive growth and expansion.
  • Build strong relationships with key stakeholders in the public and private sectors to foster collaboration and create a supportive business environment.
  • Contribute to the hiveonline cross-functional leadership team including representation at weekly leadership meetings.

Team Leadership (10%)

  • Build and develop a high-performing team aligned with hiveonline’s values and culture.
  • Provide clear direction, support, and resources to empower team members to achieve their full potential.
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment that encourages innovation and teamwork and represents the values of hiveonline.
  • Lead local performance management to track progress, identify development needs, and recognize achievements.

Project Management and Customer Success (10%)

  • Lead and manage complex projects from inception to completion, ensuring successful delivery within budget and timeline.
  • Build strong customer relationships through exceptional service and support.
  • Identify customer needs and develop tailored solutions to drive customer satisfaction and loyalty.
  • Implement effective project management methodologies and tools to optimise efficiency and productivity.

Operations & Change Management (10%)

  • Ensure compliance with local laws, regulations, and company policies.
  • Manage financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, and reporting.
  • Optimise operational processes and implement cost-saving measures.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with external partners, such as suppliers, vendors, and consultants.
  • Lead organisational change initiatives to adapt to evolving market conditions and business needs.
  • Communicate effectively to engage stakeholders and build support for change.
  • Develop and implement change management strategies to minimise disruption and maximise benefits.

The percentage weightings are representative of the organisation need and role requirements for the first year of the role. It is likely that the role will evolve and these weightings will even out as the team grows.

Key Skills and Experience

Practical Aspects

  • Legal right to work in Mozambique (unfortunately we are unable to support visa applications for this role)
  • A clean criminal record
  • Ability to work from home or a coworking location. As the team grows we may arrange an office in Maputo when the time comes.
  • Ability to undertake necessary travel in the country and occasionally overseas if required.

Hard Skills and Experience

  • Master’s degree in a related field, or equivalent work experience
  • Sales and business development: Sales cycle management, pipeline management, market analysis
  • Project management: Planning, execution, monitoring, evaluation
  • Team management: Leadership, coaching, performance management
  • Technology proficiency: Relevant software and platforms (e.g., CRM, ERP, project management tools)
  • Sector Experience: Experience working in the  international development and/or financial services sectors especially around financial inclusion and market systems development
  • Language proficiency: Fluency in local language (Portuguese) and English
