Our client, one of the world’s top energy companies, is seeking a Commercial Advisor to support their Mozambique operations.
Position Summary
The Commercial Advisor will support the Business Development Manager by promoting and implementing the project’s commercial structure. This includes cross-functional collaboration with teams such as Legal, Project Finance, Accounting, Project Support, and Partner Relations.
Key Responsibilities
Commercial Activities
- Support and participate in negotiations between the project operator and the Government of Mozambique regarding:
- Exploration & Production Concession Contract (EPCC)
- Decree-Law
- Marine Concessions
- Financial Stability Agreements
- Petroleum Law and Regulations
- LNG Project Agreement (if applicable)
- Facility Concession Contract (FCC) (if applicable)
- Other relevant agreements
- Build and maintain relationships with stakeholders at:
- Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy
- National Petroleum Institute
- ENH
- Ministry of Economy and Finance
- Ministry of Labor, Employment and Social Security
- Ministry of Transport and Communications
- Immigration and Customs Authorities
- Other local/international concessionaires as applicable
HSE Responsibilities
- Be familiar with the One-MAESTRO framework, biodiversity policies, and the 12 Golden Rules
- Complete mandatory HSE training and e-learnings
- Present safety moments in meetings
- Use the Stop Card to prevent incidents
- Actively contribute to safety initiatives such as JMS World Safety Day
- Propose and support workplace HSE improvements
- Identify and report workplace anomalies and recommend corrective actions
Accountability & Reporting
- Contribute to commercial negotiations and internal strategy development
- Draft memos/summaries for senior leadership
- Coordinate with Legal and other departments regarding commercial matters
- Support corporate compliance and reporting of the Project’s Special Purpose Entities (SPEs)
- Prepare and submit quarterly and annual activity reports to the National Petroleum Institute
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Geology, Geophysics, Business, or Law (non-practicing attorney); MBA preferred
- Minimum 10 years’ business experience, ideally in Oil & Gas, Energy, or Heavy Industry
- Business experience in African countries, preferably Mozambique
- Experience in:
- Government agency interaction
- Commercial negotiations
- Mining, forestry, power, oil & gas, or pipeline industries
- Business leadership or entrepreneurial roles
- Fluent in Portuguese and English
