CTO / SOLUTION ARCHITECT/ TECHNICAL LEAD – FINANCIAL SECTOR
AFRICA – MOZAMBIQUE/MAPUTO
Lead the technology vision for a disruptive, an AI-native fintech platform revolutionizing financial sector and payments in Mozambique. Build and mentor a lean, high-performing engineering team to develop scalable microservices using Java/Spring Boot, Apache Fineract, and Kubernetes, integrating AI for automation and compliance.
Oversee on-prem infrastructure, ensure regulatory alignment with national swith and Central
Bank, and deliver secure, scalable operations.
Key Responsibilities
• Define and execute technology roadmap aligned with business objectives.
• Design and oversee architecture using microservices, APIs, and open-source fintech frameworks (Mifos, Fineract, PaymentHub, National Swtich).
• Build, mentor, and lead a multidisciplinary engineering team (Backend, DevOps, QA, Mobile, AI/ML, UX/UI).
• Ensure data protection, security, scalability, and compliance with regulatory standards.
• Collaborate with leadership, product, and compliance teams to deliver strategic technology milestones.
• Implement DevOps best practices and CI/CD pipelines for on-premise deployments.
• Integrate AI-driven insights for automation, decision support, and operational excellence.
Tech Stack & Tools
• Core: Java / Spring Boot / PostgreSQL / Kafka / Kubernetes.
• Fintech Frameworks: Apache Fineract, Mifos X, Paymenthub.
• Data & AI: TensorFlow, Apache Airflow, LangChain.
• Infrastructure: On-prem Linux servers (Dockerized), CI/CD pipelines.
• APIs: REST, Open Banking (FAPI), SIMO, Visa/Mastercard integrations.
Experience & Qualifications
• 5+ years in software engineering, in fintech, digital banking, or payments.
• Proven leadership experience managing diverse, high-performing technical teams.
• Expertise in scalable architecture, microservices, and open-source banking platforms.
• Experience with on-prem deployments, compliance, and data sovereignty.
• Excellent communication skills — English required.
Preferred Skills
• Experience with open banking, RegTech, or AML systems.
• Contributions to open-source fintech projects (Mifos, PaymentHub, Mojaloop,
• Fineract).
• Understanding of mobile-first UX design for low-connectivity environments.
