Vaga: Market Research Manager

Our services include research (market, social and development research), branding, promotions, merchandising and sales support. With a growing client profile, Tangerine counts on the development of local capacities to deliver world-class services nationwide and across many sectors, including oil and gas, pharmaceutical, food and beverage, telecommunications and other.

We are seeking a strategic and hands-on Market Research Manager to lead our research department and deliver high-quality insights that support our clients’ decision-making across FMCG, retail, agriculture, and services sectors.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience in designing, managing, and executing both quantitative and qualitative research projects—from proposal stage to final reporting—while ensuring data accuracy, team productivity, and client satisfaction.

This is a client-facing role requiring commercial acumen, strong communication skills, and the ability to translate data into actionable business recommendations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and supervise end-to-end execution of research projects, including retail audits, consumer surveys, mystery shopping, brand tracking, impact assessments, and value chain studies.
  • Lead the development of research proposals, including methodology design, sampling, budgeting, timelines, and deliverables.
  • Engage with clients to understand research needs, present methodologies, and deliver findings through presentations and reports.
  • Manage and mentor a team of supervisors, data collectors, data analysts, and support staff, ensuring quality control in fieldwork and data processing.
  • Ensure data integrity and validity across all stages—from tool design and pretesting to data cleaning and final analysis—while supervising the use of platforms.
  • Transform research data into clear, insightful, and actionable reports using PowerPoint, Excel, and data visualization tools; support clients in interpreting results for decision-making.
  • Monitor budgets, field productivity, and resource allocation, and track KPIs to evaluate department efficiency and profitability.
  • Continuously explore new research methods and digital tools (e.g., mobile data collection, dashboards, GIS mapping) to improve data delivery and service offering.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Market Research, Statistics, Economics, Social Sciences, Marketing, or a related field; a Master’s degree or certifications in data analysis, M&E, or research tools is an advantage
  • Minimum 4–6 years of experience in market research, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role
  • Strong background in both quantitative and qualitative research methodologies
  • Experience managing research projects in Mozambique or similar markets is highly valued
  • Proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and data analysis tools
  • Familiarity with mobile data collection tools
  • Ability to interpret data tables, cross-tabulations, and dashboards, and draw actionable insights
  • Fluency in Portuguese and strong working proficiency in English (both written and verbal)
