Job Summary

Unitrans is seeking a skilled Tyre Bay Strip and Fitter to join the team in Mafambisse. The role is critical in ensuring that vehicles, trucks, tractors, and heavy equipment are fitted with roadworthy tyres. The successful candidate will carry out tyre maintenance, repair, and replacement duties while ensuring compliance with safety and operational procedures.

This is a hands-on role involving roadside assistance, tyre fitting, mechanical stripping, and maintenance of pneumatic and hydraulic systems to support smooth production operations.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Control resource use and daily operational activities.
• Assess, repair, and replace tyres and tyre-related components (inner tubes, rims, wheels).
• Ensure tyres are correctly inflated as per manufacturer specifications.
• Perform tyre rotation and balancing using appropriate tools and machines.
• Seal punctures, patch tubes, and prepare tyres for vulcanization.
• Conduct road repairs and respond to emergency roadside tyre issues.
• Inspect tyre casings for defects, wear, and damage.
• Operate tyre changers, hydraulic jacks, winches, and computerized testing equipment.
• Maintain accurate tyre stock and oversee storage of new and used tyres.
• Advise the workshop foreman regarding tyre status and replacements.
• Drive vehicles as necessary for testing or breakdown support (driver’s licence required).
• Comply with all health and safety regulations and company standards.
• Collaborate with mechanics and provide additional workshop support when required.

Minimum Requirements

• Education: Grade 12 / Matric / NQF Level 4
• Training: Technical training in transport maintenance or mechanics
• Experience: Minimum of 3 years in a similar tyre-fitting role

Skills and Competencies

• Strong understanding of tyre fitting tools and techniques.
• Familiarity with health and safety standards.
• Ability to work under pressure and in various weather conditions.
• Physically capable of lifting heavy parts (with or without equipment).
• Confident, proactive, and capable of working independently or in a team.

Work Environment

• Based at the Site Depot in Mafambisse, Sofala Province, Mozambique.
• Field and workshop-based tasks, including roadside breakdowns and outdoor work.
