Project context
- Mozambique LNG is a major industrial project (~20 BUSD) executed through multiple EPC packages, with a peak site workforce of ~15,000 personnel.
- The Rotating Supervisor covers the installation, inspection, preservation, alignment, and pre commissioning readiness of all rotating equipment across EPC work packages.
- Rotating equipment includes: pumps, compressors, gas turbines, blowers, generators, and mechanical packages.
- The scope spans site installation, daily field supervision, quality oversight, coordination with construction and commissioning teams, and readiness up to Mechanical Completion.
Goals and deliverables
- Daily Workfront Preparation & Coordination Attend daily coordination meetings with EPC Contractor and internal teams. Review daily look ahead plans, manpower allocation, equipment and tooling availability. Ensure workfront readiness: access, scaffolding, lifting plans, baseplate readiness, grouting materials, alignment tools. Identify productivity constraints such as vendor availability, preservation concerns, conflicting activities, and missing documentation. Field Supervision & Technical Oversight Maintain strong field presence to supervise the installation of pumps, compressors, turbines, blowers, and generators.
- Oversee correct use of vendor drawings, P&IDs, layouts, 3D model extracts, ITPs, and approved procedures. Supervise equipment positioning, leveling, grouting, soft‑foot correction, and initial and final alignment checks. Ensure proper handling and preservation practices (lubrication, rotation, protective covers, storage conditions). Provide technical clarifications to EPC supervisors, foremen, and field technicians. Daily Quality Surveillance Conduct routine inspections on: alignment checks (initial & final) grouting and skid installation bolt torquing & tensioning lubrication systems & preservation status rotation checks and vibration acceptance conditions Follow up on NCRs, observations, and corrective actions. Ensure strict compliance with approved ITPs, procedures, and vendor requirements. Daily HSE Leadership Conduct daily HSE walkdowns and enforce safe practices. Ensure strict compliance with lifting plans, exclusion zones, lock out/tag out, confined space entry, and permit to work requirements. Stop any unsafe activity and promote strong safety culture across all teams. Daily Interface Management Coordinate with: Civil for foundations, grouting, dimensional checks.
- Piping for stress free connections, supports, and routing.
- E&I for motor cabling, instrumentation, and auxiliary systems.
- QA/QC for inspections & documentation.
- Commissioning for walkdowns, MC status, readiness tests Resolve day to day technical clashes and avoid schedule impacts. Pre Commissioning & Commissioning Support Track readiness of rotating equipment, including: lube oil flushing rotation checks coupling alignment vibration acceptance criteria auxiliary systems readiness Support Commissioning for functional tests, vendor assistance, and troubleshooting. Verify punch lists, MC dossiers, as built documentation, and turnover packages. Daily Reporting & Documentation Prepare daily discipline reports covering progress, key issues, constraints, HSE observations, and next priorities. Review and sign: alignment reports, torque logs, check sheets, quality documents, NCRs, and updates to test packs. Ensure all documentation is accurate and traceable for MC and commissioning stages.
Expected skills
- Lift & Rigging Supervision Review and approval of critical lift plans; supervision of heavy-lift operations (compressor bundles, GT packages); certification of rigging hardware and crane operator coordination
- Vendor FSE Coordination & Management Scheduling and management of OEM Field Service Engineers at defined installation milestones; preparation of scope of work, safety inductions, and documentation requirements for each vendor visit
- Lube-Oil System Flushing Planning and execution of dedicated lube-oil flush circuits, temporary filter installation, flushing acceptance criteria per API 614/cleanliness NAS 1638 targets, and post-flush reporting
- CMMS / Progress Tracking Systems Use of CMMS/construction management platforms (InEight, Procore, AVEVA PRISM or equivalent) for test-pack status, ITP hold-point tracking, and punch-list management
- Gas Turbines & Aeroderivative Drivers Supervision of GT skid installation, combustion liner fit-up, exhaust system assembly, lube-oil module hook-up, and starter-motor pre-commissioning
- API Standards Suite Applied knowledge of API 610 (centrifugal pumps), API 614 (lube-oil), API 617 (centrifugal compressors), API 671 (couplings), API 686 (machinery installation), API 670 (condition monitoring)
- NCR Management & Corrective Action Tracking Raising, tracking, and closing Non-Conformance Reports; root-cause analysis, disposition (use-as-is, rework, reject), and lessons-learned capture
- Coupling & Drive-Train Management Installation, torquing, and inspection of flexible, gear-type, and diaphragm couplings; verification of axial/radial clearances per API 671
