Job Vacancy – Rural Finance Expert (Independent Consultant)
Location:
Zambezia Province, Mozambique (Districts: Nicoadala, Namacurra, Mocuba, Lugela, and Gurue)
Objective:
The Rural Financial Inclusion Expert will enhance access to financial services for underserved rural communities. This role is part of LORY ENTREPRISES’ youth employment project, which aims to support 15,000 youth and women in achieving economic independence and financial stability.
Responsibilities:
- Needs Assessment & Research
- Analyze financial needs, challenges, and opportunities in rural communities.
- Identify barriers to financial inclusion (e.g., lack of access, low financial literacy).
- Collect data through surveys and focus groups.
- Program Development & Implementation
- Develop financial inclusion programs tailored to rural communities.
- Implement financial literacy training.
- Improve access to financial products (microfinance, savings, insurance).
- Work with financial providers to ensure accessible and affordable services.
- Stakeholder Engagement
- Collaborate with government agencies, NGOs, financial institutions, and communities.
- Advocate for policies supporting rural financial inclusion.
- Monitoring & Evaluation
- Assess the impact of financial inclusion initiatives.
- Develop evaluation frameworks and reports.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s or master’s in Finance, Economics, Development Studies, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum 5 years in financial inclusion, rural development, or microfinance.
- Knowledge & Skills: Strong understanding of financial inclusion, excellent analytical and communication skills.
- Language:
- Fluency in Portuguese is essential.
- Good command of written and spoken English.
- Proficiency in local languages of the target area is a plus.
Specific Examples of Tasks:
- Conducting market assessments to identify opportunities for financial inclusion in the target region.
- Developing and implementing training programs for community officers using VSLAs methodology.
- Working with community groups to establish village savings and loan associations (VSLAs).
- Facilitating linkages between rural producers and financial institutions.
- Advocating for policies that promote financial inclusion in rural areas.
Contract Duration:
- Initially 12 months, with the possibility of extension based on performance.
