Job Title: Finance Manager

Location: Mozambique (Maputo + support to branches as required)

Department: Finance

Reports to: CEO / General Manager

Works closely with: Operations, Sales, HR, External Accountant (if applicable), Auditors, Tax Authority, Banks/Insurers

Position Summary

The Finance Manager is responsible for day-to-day financial management, compliance, controls, and reporting. The role ensures accurate books and records, disciplined cash management, and timely management information to support operational and growth decisions.

Key Responsibilities

1) Financial Operations & Controls

  • Oversee daily finance operations and safeguard company financial resources.
  • Maintain accurate accounting records and a strong audit trail.
  • Ensure timely bank reconciliations and resolve discrepancies.
  • Review monthly balance sheet accounts (inventory, fixed assets, receivables, payables, loans/borrowings) and investigate anomalies.
  • Perform monthly reconciliations between CRM and accounting system data and resolve variances with relevant teams.

2) Budgeting, Cost Control & Business Support

  • Support development of budgets and monitor performance against budget.
  • Track and control operating costs, highlighting variances and recommending corrective actions.
  • Provide practical financial insights to improve performance (margins, cost drivers, collections, operational efficiency).
  • Monitor client/portfolio performance (e.g., ageing, payment behavior, credit exposure) and support actions to strengthen collections.

3) Cashflow & Working Capital

  • Prepare and maintain cashflow forecasts and cash position updates.
  • Support working capital discipline through monitoring of receivables, payables, and inventory movements.

4) Statutory Compliance & External Liaison

  • Manage tax compliance activities (calculations, documentation), and support tax planning as required. submissions, supporting
  • Ensure compliance with all legal, regulatory, and statutory financial obligations.
  • Act as liaison with tax authorities, banks, insurance companies, and other relevant institutions.

5) Reporting & Periodic Accounts.

  • Prepare periodic financial reports for management and key stakeholders.
  • Produce quarterly management accounts and reporting packs.
  • Prepare historical financial statements in accordance with Mozambican GAAP.
  • Support preparation of forecasts and prospective financial statements for internal planning.

6) Inventory & Branch Consolidation Support

  • Coordinate weekly stock counts with operations/store teams and ensure integrity of inventory records.
  • Consolidate financial accounts for head office and branches (where applicable).

7) Audit Coordination

  • Coordinate annual audits and external financial reviews, ensuring readiness, documentation, and timely closure of findings.

8) Payroll Review

  • Review monthly payroll for accuracy and completeness prior to processing/payment approval, in coordination with HR.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Auditing, Business Administration, Finance, or related field.
  • 3-5 years relevant experience (audit, consulting, or financial management).
  • Mandatory: Registered with the Mozambican Order of Accountants and Auditors (OCAM).
  • Proficiency with accounting software and strong Excel skills.
  • Fluency in Portuguese and English.
  • Advantage (not mandatory): ACCA/CPA/CA or other international certification.
